Quokkas

The name “quokka” comes from the Aboriginal Noongar language. These friendly little marsupials are native to Western Australia, with Rottnest Island being their main home. They are famous for their round faces and upturned mouths that give the impression that they are always smiling.

Approximately the size of a domestic cat, quokkas are marsupials, related to kangaroos and wallabies. They are friendly and curious little animals , often approaching humans and appearing to cheekily pose for photos!

Beyond their charm, quokkas play a crucial role in their ecosystems, supporting plant growth and helping maintain balance in their habitats. However, like many native species, they face threats from habitat loss and predators, making conservation vital for their survival.
